Appointment Categories and Improvements (v2.17.17)

This release brings a mix of new features and helpful enhancements across WriteUpp. From smarter appointment organisation to a smoother payment experience and improvements to video consultations and Online Booking 2.0, here’s what’s new and updated in this version.


New Features


Appointment Categories

You can now create and manage appointment categories under the Main Menu → Fields → Appointment Categories. Then, when creating or editing appointment types, simply assign them to a category to keep your list organised.


Top tip: Need a new category on the fly? Just type the name into the category dropdown while editing an appointment type and hit Enter!


Once set up, your appointment types will be neatly grouped by category in the Type dropdown under Create → Appointment, and within the appointment modal. You can also customise the display order of your categories under Fields → Appointment Categories.



If you’re using Online Booking 2.0, these categories will also appear on your booking site. Clients can select a category on your homepage to see all available appointment types within it, making it easier than ever for them to find and book the right appointment! Note: Appointment Categories aren’t supported in Classic Online Booking. Switch to our updated Booking system to take advantage of this and all future enhancements.


New Form Import Tool

You can now import your own assessment forms directly into WriteUpp!


If you have an existing form as an image or a PDF, simply upload it under the Main Menu → Tools → Form import, and we'll convert it into an editable form for use within WriteUpp. Once imported, you can adjust the layout, update any fields, and publish it when you’re ready.


Because this feature uses AI to interpret your form, it’s smart but not perfect. Complex layouts, handwriting, and unusual formatting may need manual tweaking, so we recommend reviewing everything before publishing.


As part of this update, we’ve also added more flexibility to the form builder. You can now switch individual sections between split view and full width to better control the layout.

Improvements


Updated Payments Workflow for Clients (Stripe Users)

We’ve updated the online payment experience for your clients in Online Booking 2.0 and the Client Portal.


Note: This update does not apply to Classic Online Booking or users on Square. 


When clients make an online payment via Stripe, they’ll now have more flexible and convenient payment options:

  • Link by Stripe - Clients can choose to save their payment details securely for faster future checkouts.
  • Google Pay - Available when paying from supported Android devices or browsers.
  • Apple Pay - Available when paying from supported Apple devices or Safari.


This update makes it easier and faster for clients to complete payments, helping you get paid more smoothly than ever before.


New Invoiced & Paid Indicators for Appointments

We’ve added new indicators to help you quickly see whether an appointment has been invoiced and paid. On the Appointment Details summary page (accessible via the eye icon in the appointment modal and the Appointments tab), you’ll now see Invoiced and Paid markers showing Yes/No.


We’ve also introduced a new Paid column to the Appointments table in the Appointments tab of the Patient Summary, displayed alongside the existing Invoiced column. If an invoice has been fully paid, this column will show Yes, otherwise, it will show No.


Video calling platform improvements:
  • You can now hide your self view during a video consultation for a less distracting experience. Simply click the diagonal arrow icon in the self view box to close it. Click the same icon again to bring your self view back whenever you need it.
  • The black banner that appears when sharing your screen during a video consultation has been reduced in size. This change ensures it no longer obscures content at the bottom of your shared screen, especially on smaller displays.
  • We’ve added a solid black background behind the Show Preview box on the waiting room screen to improve contrast.
  • If video or audio fails during a call, you can restart your camera or microphone from the device selector menu. To make this clearer, we’ve added a prompt guiding you to restart your devices when an issue is detected.


Online Booking 2.0 improvements:
  • We’ve updated the Online Booking 2.0 URLs so that each booking page now has its own unique address. This includes the final ‘Appointment Booked’ confirmation screen. Because this page now has a dedicated, unique URL, it can be reliably used to track completed bookings in Google Analytics.
  • The WriteUpp logo in the embedded version of Online Booking 2.0 now has a transparent background, helping it integrate seamlessly with your website’s design.
  • Previously, Safari required a full extra line of text before showing the '+' icon for expanded descriptions in Online Booking 2.0, This has now been resolved, ensuring the '+' icon appears reliably in all supported browsers.
