Introducing Group Video Calling (v2.17.18)

This release introduces Group Video Calling as a new add-on in WriteUpp, allowing you to host video sessions with multiple participants. We’ve also made a small improvement to the video call information visibility for site administrators and refined how appointment categories are shown in Online Booking 2.0.

New Features

Group Video Calling Add-On

You can now extend your video capabilities in WriteUpp with Group Video Calling!

All WriteUpp subscriptions already include 1:1 video calling (using video minute bundles). If you’d like to host group video sessions, you can now enable this through a new add-on.

How it works

  • Group video calling is available to subscribers on Stripe billing only.
  • Each user who needs to host group video sessions requires a video licence (£8 per month per user).
  • Users with a video licence also get unlimited video minutes, so there is no need to purchase bundles for their calls.

Why use the video add-on?

  • Unlimited video minutes for licensed users
  • Predictable monthly pricing
  • Host up to 4 participants per call
  • Ideal for group therapy, training, supervision and collaborative sessions

Even if you don’t need group video calling, the add-on could still save you money if you regularly use more than 800 minutes a month (prices in GBP)!

Getting started

  1. Switch to Stripe Billing

Group video licences can only be added on Stripe. If you currently pay via PayPal or GoCardless, you'll need to switch to Stripe first.

  1. Add video licences

Go to Settings → Account and use the Video licence(s) field to choose how many you need, then click the green ‘Update Subscription’ button.

  1. Assign licences to users

Go to Main Menu → Integrations & Add-ons → Video Consultation → Configure and assign each licence to the user who needs it.

Read more about enabling group video calling here.

Once assigned, those users can host group video calls with up to 4 participants and enjoy unlimited minutes!

Starting a group video call works in the same way as our current 1:1 video platform. Anyone with a join link can request to join, and the host can accept up to three additional participants before starting the call. The waiting room screen looks slightly different to 1:1 video, as each participant must be approved individually before the session starts.

Improvements

Site admin visibility of video call information

We’ve made the video screen of the appointment modal visible to site administrators for all video appointments with other users. This allows administrators to view information on the length and attendees of video sessions with other users and access the debug logs if any issues arise.

Improved Appointment Category Display in Online Booking 2.0

An appointment category will now only appear on the homepage of your Online Booking 2.0 site if it contains at least one appointment type that is available to book online.
