Switching from Stripe Standard to Stripe Unified

To take advantage of the new partnership between WriteUpp and Stripe, which allows us to lower the previous transaction rates that were offered through WriteUpp, we'll need you to onboard a brand new Stripe account using a different connection. These accounts are called "Unified" accounts, whereas before they were "Standard" Accounts.

In addition to lowering the transaction fees, Unified accounts will also allow us to offer a Stripe Terminal integration in the near future, so watch this space!

If you've currently got Stripe connected to WriteUpp, please follow these steps to switch your connection:

Head to Integrations & Add Ons -> Stripe -> Configure

Click on Connect to Stripe Unified , where you will see a message that your current Stripe account will be disconnected:

We'll keep your Standard Stripe account connected while you complete the onboarding process, to ensure there is no disruption to your payment services while this is underway.

Follow the steps on screen to create a new Stripe Unified account. Although you will need to create a new account as part of this process, you will be able to use the same email address as your existing Stripe account.

You can enter the email address for your existing account here:

You'll then be prompted to enter the password for that Stripe account:

And be able to choose to use your saved information to create your new account, or create a new business:

Using the same email address and business information as your existing Stripe account will reduce the chances that you will be asked by Stripe for any identity or business verification, to streamline the onboarding process.

Once you start the migration, you'll see this on screen within WriteUpp, clicking to check your progress will log you into the onboarding process of the newly created account where you can continue the setup:

Once the required information has been submitted, you will see a confirmation on screen that your new account has been onboarded, and you will be directed back to WriteUpp where you'll see your new account ID on screen:

Please note that if you complete the onboarding process but when you are returned to WriteUpp, you still see the "click here to check progress" link on screen, there may be outstanding actions that prevent the link from being completed. For example, your newly created account might have been flagged for identity verification before it can be enabled for payouts. You should log into your Stripe dashboard to check for any outstanding actions.

Any payments processed after the new connection has been made will be directed to the new Stripe account number displayed on screen. You'll be able to log into the Stripe dashboard for your new account to check your payments as usual.
