Connecting Stripe to WriteUpp

Stripe is a payment gateway that allows you to take online payments directly from your clients. It’s integrated into WriteUpp so that when a client makes a payment using Stripe, the associated invoice is marked as paid for you. You can find out more about Stripe here.

If you’re based in the UK, you also have the option to use Square, which you can find more about here. If you are a UK business and don't see Stripe as an option, please contact us and request that it is enabled on your account.

To take payment (via Stripe) in WriteUpp you will be charged your local Stripe fee + 0.5%. So, for example, if your local Stripe fees are 1.4% + 20p/transaction you will be charged 1.9% + 20p/transaction.

All fees are deducted by Stripe.

If you wish to start taking payments in WriteUpp via Stripe, open the Main Menu and choose Integrations & Add Ons then click on Configure underneath Stripe.

You will then be taken to the following screen where you will need to connect to your Stripe account. Don’t worry if you’ve not already got a Stripe account, you'll be able to set one up as part of the process.

To get started, click on Connect with Stripe and then enter your email address. If you already have a Stripe account, enter the email address linked to your Stripe account. If you don't or if you need to set up a new one, enter the email address you'd like to use:

If you already have a Stripe account, once you enter the email address for this account, you'll be prompted to enter your password and log in:

Then confirm the account you'd like to use and that you want to connect your Stripe account to WriteUpp:

Creating a new Stripe account

If you don't already have a Stripe account, once you've entered the email address you'd like to use, you'll need to follow the instructions on screen to create a new account. You'll need to have your mobile phone handy while doing this, as Stripe utilise two-factor authentication when logging in, by way of a code sent to your mobile number. You'll also need to provide some information about your business before confirming your account setup.

Having connected your Stripe account, you will be taken back to WriteUpp where you'll see confirmation of the connection on screen:

You'll also be able to:
reconnect your Stripe account if you're having problems
see details on how you can insert a "Pay by Stripe" link on your invoices
disconnect your Stripe account if you no longer wish to take payments in WriteUpp

Having connected (and setup) Stripe, all payments made via Stripe will paid into your Stripe account where they can be transferred to your business bank account.
