What browser and operating system should I use to run WriteUpp?

WriteUpp is cloud based software, which means that there is nothing to install and nothing to download. You simply open up your web browser on your chosen device and navigate to your unique URL or to login to your site.

Browser support

When using WriteUpp, we would recommend that you use an up to date version of one of the following browsers:

Google Chrome
Apple Safari
Mozilla Firefox
Microsoft Edge

As Internet Explorer is no longer supported by Microsoft, it is not supported for use with WriteUpp. We can't guarantee that WriteUpp will function as it should if used in Internet Explorer.

When logging into WriteUpp using Internet Explorer, you'll be advised of this on the login screen:

We'd recommend you use either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge instead.

The most recent and the two previous versions of each browser will be supported, so please make sure you keep your browser up to date for the best possible experience! For example, if the most up to date version of Google Chrome is 116, versions 115 and 114 will be supported.

Operating System support

If you are using an Apple computer, the most recent and two previous versions of macOS will be supported. If you can no longer update your OS to one of the three most recent versions, please use Google Chrome. This is because Apple only keeps its three most recent versions of OS supplied with security updates.

If you are using a Windows device, again the most recent and two previous versions of Windows will be supported. Please make sure you are using the most up to date browser available for your operating system. Windows XP is a legacy version of WriteUpp and as such, is not supported, as up to date browser versions are not available for Windows XP.

If you are using a mobile device or tablet, as above, the most recent and two previous versions of your operating system will be supported. Please ensure your device is kept updated. If your device no longer receives updates to the operating system, you may not be able to use an up to date browser version.

Impact of using out of date operating systems or browsers

As WriteUpp continues to develop, we can’t guarantee full functionality on out of date browsers or operating systems. As we introduce new features and improvements, they may not work as expected on older browsers or devices, as these browsers/devices don’t always have the necessary components to support more modern developments.

If you see the below message when logging into WriteUpp, we’ve detected that you’re using an out of date browser:

It’s not that you can’t use your current browser, but for the smoothest possible experience and to ensure that you can access all of the fantastic features in WriteUpp, we’d recommend updating. You might just need to update to the latest released version of your favoured browser.

Guidance on updating the four recommended browsers can be found below:

We can't detect what operating system version you are using in the same way, but if you are seeing unexpected behaviour, please check to see if your operating system is fully up to date.

You should also have pop-ups, images and JavaScript enabled on your chosen browser. Please also bear in mind that certain browser extensions like Ad Blockers may result in inconsistent behaviour.

We do also have a WriteUpp App available for both Apple and Android devices.

The app is intended to be a companion to the desktop version of WriteUpp and not a like for like replacement, so it doesn't have the same functionality. You can however login to the desktop version of WriteUpp using the mobile browser on your device.
