Mailchimp Troubleshooting

Below is a list of errors you may see in the ‘Previous exports’ log following a bulk export to Mailchimp. An email address may fail during an export due to a variety of reasons.

Firstly, to check if there were any errors during an export, head to Integrations & Add Ons -> Mailchimp and click the Previous Exports button. Find the entry for the export you would like to check, click the three dots at the end of the row and select View export details. This will open the export modal, where you can view any errors under the ‘Errors’ tab.

Common email errors:

[Email address] is already a list member, do you want to update? please provide update_existing:true in the request body.
This error means that the email address already exists in your default audience. Head to Mailchimp and go to your contact list for the default audience, and you should see that a contact is using that email address already.

[Email address] looks fake or invalid, please enter a real email address.
This means that the email address has been flagged as fake, and probably isn’t a real email address. Head to the Patient Summary for that client in WriteUpp and make sure they have a valid email address recorded.

[Email address] has signed up to a lot of lists very recently; we're not allowing more signups for now.
This error means that the email address has already been used to sign up to a lot of Mailing lists, and for security reasons, the email address cannot be added to any more contact lists in Mailchimp for a while.

Issues with an export completing:

If you are having any issues with a contact or tag export, then head to the ‘Previous exports’ log and check the status of the export. If the export has had the status “Queued” for a long time, then it may be worth cancelling the export, reconnecting to Mailchimp, and trying again.

To cancel an export:

Head to Integrations & Add Ons -> Mailchimp, and click the Previous Exports button at the bottom of the screen

In the Mailchimp bulk export log, locate the export you would like to cancel (the status must be “Queued” or “In Progress” to cancel an export; completed exports cannot be cancelled). Click the three dots at the end of the row and select Cancel export:

You will see the status of the export change to “Cancelled”

To Reconnect to Mailchimp:

Head to Integrations & Add Ons -> Mailchimp

At the top of the screen, click the blue Reconnect to Mailchimp button:

You will be directed to the Mailchimp login screen where you can reconnect your account to WriteUpp.

Once you have granted us access to your Mailchimp account, you will be directed back to your WriteUpp site and see that you are connected to Mailchimp.

You can now try to rerun any exports that were previously failing.

If any issues persist, please contact our support using the live chat icon. However, please be aware that we may not be able to assist with all issues, and you may need to contact Mailchimp for further support.
