Switching from Square to Stripe
If you're already using Square with WriteUpp and you'd like to switch over to Stripe to take online payments from your clients, it's really easy to do!
To switch to Stripe:
First of all, if you don't already have a Stripe account, don't worry! To take advantage of the integration between WriteUpp and Stripe, you'll need to set up a new Stripe account as part of the onboarding process.
To connect WriteUpp to Stripe, head to Integrations & Add Ons -> Stripe -> Configure. When you connect to Stripe, we'll automatically disconnect you from Square, so there's no need to worry about addressing that separately. You'll just need to confirm "yes" when prompted here after you click Connect with Stripe:
You can only be connected to one of Stripe or Square at a time. It won't be possible to use a combination of Square and Stripe to take integrated payments.
Follow the steps on screen to create your new account. If you've used Stripe previously, you will be able to use the same email address, you'l just be creating a new account ID to link to WriteUpp. You can read more about the connection process here. Once your account is connected, you'll then need to follow the steps to configure the payments pathways you'd like to use. With Stripe you can currently take online invoice payments and prepayments for online bookings.
We're currently looking into integrating a Stripe card payment terminal with WriteUpp for in person payments, so watch this space!
If you were previously accepting invoice payments via Square, the payment link and/or button that you previously used for Square payments will also be used for your Stripe payments. If you already had the payment link/button inserted into your invoice footer or invoice email templates, they will still be there. Invoices sent when you were connected to Square can still be paid using the same link, WriteUpp will simply channel the payment to Stripe instead of Square. If you need to add a link or button to your invoice footer, you can find out how to do that here.
You can check this by opening an invoice and clicking on the pay link or button. The payments page should display "Powered by Stripe" at the bottom:
If you had online booking prepayments turned on, this will remain switched on if you disconnected from Square as part of the Stripe connection process. If you disconnected Square from the Square configuration page prior to connecting to Stripe, you'll need to switch it back on. To do this, follow the steps here.
You can check this by checking that the payment switch in online booking has remained on, and by following the booking process to the payments screen. The Stripe card entry field looks like this:
You'll then be able to view and manage all of the payments you receive via WriteUpp on your Stripe dashboard.
