How do I set up SMS communications for Appointments?

To ensure your patients receive appointment communications via SMS, you will need to do three things:

Define what SMS communications you would like to send
Opt patients in to receive SMS communications
Purchase SMS credits

WriteUpp comes with a number of SMS communications predefined, which you can read about here , but you can quickly and easily add additional ones by following the steps below. 

You can also edit any of the predefined ones by going to Settings -> Scheduling -> Appointment Communications and clicking on the 3 dot menu at the end of the row. There will be options to edit the trigger and/or the associated templates. You can also delete triggers from this menu:



To set up a new SMS appointment communication:


Go to Main Menu -> Settings -> Scheduling -> Appointment Communication

Click on the New Trigger button at the bottom of the screen:



Use the dropdown boxes to specify the communication details, including:

Method - select 'SMS' - or Email is available as an option
Message template - What information would you like to send? Use the 'Manage Templates' link next to the dropdown to add and edit message templates.
Event - What event in WriteUpp will trigger the sending of the message?
If type is (optional) - Would you like the message to be sent for only a particular Appointment Type?
When? - When would you like your message sent? (available for Reminder and Video Reminders only)

Once you hit Save, you will be taken back to your list of communication triggers, where you will see the newly created one

Repeat to add as many communications as you would like!
