Why can't I delete an appointment?

If you have raised an invoice for an appointment, you won't be able to delete the appointment from the diary.

We do this for your protection, so that your diary matches the information on the associated invoice. If we didn't do this, HMRC would likely take a dim view of your record keeping.

Example: HMRC audit your invoices and do a simple cross-check between the appointments listed on one of your invoices and what's in your diary. A discrepancy between what's on the invoice and what's in your diary will give cause for concern at the very least, and may prolong your audit - not something you want, rest assured!

If an invoice has been raised for an appointment, then when you click on it in the diary, you won't see the delete icon in the bottom right.

In order to delete the appointment, you'll need to delete the invoice first. You can access the invoice by clicking on the invoice icon in the top right of the appointment modal. This icon will be grey if the invoice is not paid:

And green if it has been paid:

Warning: you will have to delete the payment information first on a paid invoice, before you can delete it

How to delete an appointment with a paid invoice associated:

To delete the payment on an invoice, open the invoice, select 'Edit Payment Information' and click the Trashcan icon:

Once the payment has been deleted, you will see a Trashcan icon at the bottom of the invoice. Click this to delete the invoice.

Now, you can head back to the appointment modal and delete it using the Trashcan icon there:
