Switching from Stripe to Square

If you're already using Stripe with WriteUpp and you'd like to switch over to Square to take integrated in person card payments and pay less per transaction, it's really easy to do!

To switch to Square:

First of all, if you don't already have a Square account, you'll need to set one up.

Then, you'll need to connect WriteUpp to Square. When you connect to Square, we'll automatically disconnect you from Stripe, so there's no need to worry about addressing that separately. You'll just need to confirm "yes" when prompted here after you click Connect my Square account:



You can only be connected to one of Stripe or Square at a time. It won't be possible to use a combination of Square and Stripe to take integrated payments. For example, if you are currently taking online payments via Stripe, you won't be able to leave these via Stripe while also integrating Square for terminal payments. You'll need to switch from Stripe to Square to allow all of your transactions to be funneled through one payment provider.

Once your account is connected, you'll then need to follow the steps to configure the payments pathways you'd like to use. If necessary, you'll need to pair your Square terminal(s) to WriteUpp and confirm your location for online payments.

If you were previously accepting invoice payments via Stripe, the payment link and/or button that you previously used for Stripe payments will also be used for your Square payments. If you already had the payment link/button inserted into your invoice footer or invoice email templates, they will still be there. Invoices sent when you were connected to Stripe can still be paid using the same link, WriteUpp will simply channel the payment to Square instead of Stripe. You can check this by opening an invoice and clicking on the pay link or button. The payments page should display "Built with Square" at the bottom:



If you had online booking prepayments turned on, this will remain switched on if you disconnected from Stripe as part of the Square connection process. If you disconnected Stripe from the Stripe configuration page prior to connecting to Square, you'll need to switch it back on. To do this, follow the steps here.

You can check this by checking that the payment switch in online booking has remained on, and by following the booking process to the payments screen. The Square card entry field looks like this:



You'll then be able to view and manage all of your online and in person payments via your Square dashboard.

Square is only available to WriteUpp users based in the UK. For those of you who are not UK based, you can continue to use Stripe to take online payments.
